success story

Situation

Nick founded Pollenary in May 2018. Almost two years in, with a handful of committed clients onboard and a long-term freelancer in support, he felt it was time to seek some external help.

Nick had access to a number of agency & small business support groups, and had had some exposure to 121 coaching through those networks but was seeking someone with recent experience of scaling a small agency. He was well aware that there would be challenges ahead and that there must be someone out there who not only knew the likely shape those challenges would take, but would be able to help him shortcut to solutions.

Approach

Matt & Nick started to work together in February 2020, establishing hourly sessions once a fortnight - a long enough gap between sessions to make real progress in a small agency, but short enough to ensure momentum was maintained.

On top of the usual day-to-day support on pressing issues, Matt & Nick also:

- Established the shape of the dream agency Nick wanted to run
- Formed Pollenary’s first hiring process
- Successfully hired Pollenary’s first employee
- Created Pollenary’s structure for probationary review & personal development

After around 6 months of partnership, Matt & Nick then decided that it was time to tackle a thorny issue - profitability. Pollenary had grown to become a very different beast by this stage & was no longer at a point where any revenue was good revenue - enter Stacey, Chief Finance Strategist!

Stacey worked with Nick on a wholesale profitability review of Pollenary, identifying areas where internal tracking could be improved & where the strengths & weaknesses of Pollenary’s pricing model were. From this, Nick was able to critically assess & take action on the way he went about sales and serviced clients, safe in the knowledge that he had an accurate & detailed model for Pollenary’s profitability.

"Matt & Stacey have been significant assets to Pollenary"

The agency doubled in size in our first 9 months of working together and their guidance has helped to steer us towards an even brighter future.

Results

In the 9 months from February 2020, Pollenary has doubled in size. Matt & Stacey’s recent firsthand experience of scaling an agency enabled Nick to shortcut his way to solutions to problems that reared their heads through that growth curve & their willingness to share the internal processes from their own agency provided clear blueprints to work from.

Nick has little doubt that the support from Matt & Stacey has saved him significant time, money & stress. The ability to clarify his thinking with experienced agency operators has hastened his decision-making, helping Nick to drive Pollenary towards the dream agency he wants to run.

ACQUISITION

In January 2023, almost 3 years after starting work with And Then The World, Pollenary was acquired by Spin Brands in a deal that saw Nick take a Director-level position in a 50-person agency.
